Please, take a day or two before responding to this
e-mail. It is sure to invoke anger in many readers.
I hope that a few people will really think about what
is contained below and will start thinking in new (and
very powerful) ways about radio sports.

What if we are attempting to make sense out of chaos
by categorizing things that need not be categorized?
(gasp!)

What if we realized that it's OK to not categorize
(attempt to find order in chaos)?

Instead, we simply take what we have and operate to
attain the highest possible score ... and having no
incentive to hide the conditions (RF Output, Antenna
Gain, Operator Count, Operating Time, Location, etc)
we operated in order to get that score.

Q: How would radio sports change?
A: We would compete for the highest score we could
attain.
A: We would reveal the conditions under which we
attained that score (there is no incentive to "cheat".
A: We would find others with similar configurations
and create our own "mini rivalries".
A: We would realize that QRP ERP would result in QRP
scores (and that is OK).
A: We would realize that a 12-position 12-operator
station would probably score higher than a 3-position,
3-operator station (and that is OK).

Of course, the possibility that such a thing would
come into existance (given the resistance perceived so
far) is miniscule, right? Even so...taking a moment
to think in new ways can be extremely powerful on many
levels.
