I want to encourage some of you to make a New Year's Resolution to get
counseling, if necessary, to work through any anxieties about the SPRINT
Contest Format which may be keeping you from enjoying a whole lot of
Contesting Fun.
Seriously, it is really a great format for Little Pistol Contest Stations,
especially when you "inherit" the frequency. No Big Guns can just sit
parked on a particular frequency which is also cool if you have a pip squeak
signal. The weekly NCCC NS (and SNS) can provide you with mucho practice
prior to the real deals which take place twice a year per mode
(CW/SSB/RTTY).
When I got back on HF in late 2003, I admit I was extremely intimidated (no,
make that TERRIFIED) of the Sprint format and the QSY Rules, because I got
brain-lock. That was until fellow NCCC members N6RO, K6XX & W0YK walked me
through the two separate exchange formats step-by-step on the NCCC 75m Net
one night. Since I don't RTFM very well, that's what it took for me.
You'll never know how much additional Contesting Joy you may miss in 2008 if
you don't give the SPRINT Contest Format a sincere try. And there are many
*Regulars* who would love to work you in the weekly SNS and/or NS practice
night events.
FWIW, 73 & HNY.
Rick, K6VVA * The Locust
