It is possible to take "log what you hear" too literally, no?

If that's the case, then perhaps we shouldn't translate Morse Code into
alphanumeric characters, either.

In SS Phone or ARRL DX, I am actually going to say the word Manitoba, but
I'm certainly not going to hold it against any op who logs it as MB.

Log what you hear, yes, but translate what you understand. If F4DXW sends
cinq neuf neuf mille, you'd feel OK logging it as 599 1000 or kw, n'est ce
pas?

Yeah, I worked him too but figured it was 1K.

I did get a '2K' from a OM station. I listened for a while and that's what
he was giving. Honesty in contesting perhaps :)

Now I need to ask...

If someone sends you 1000, can you enter KW or should you enter what you
receive? This begs the question that if you must enter what you receive,
then ATT, NN, NNN, K, KW, 1OO, AK, etc must be the report, n'est ce pas?

Just when I thought I had heard it all in an ARRL CW DX Contest.

On 15m PY5/OK5MM sent me 5NN AK ... what a DUMB CUT NUMBER and UNNECESSARY
source of confusion.

AK is the mult designation for Alaska which I know well (and should have
been for this event).

I had never heard AK as a power multiplier before. ATT and K and others
yes, but IMHO, a AK is a real DUMB CUT NUMBER to use for One Kilowatt. It
took an extra two minutes to re-connect with him to FINALLY get an
explanation in WATTS.

Confusion is NOT a good thing. Why do people do this??? Gimme a good old
fashioned 5NN KW any day.

ARRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ;-(
