Joe,

You make a good point about tuning people in, but that is a skill that is
needed and will only get better with practice. It's really not a hard skill for
someone to master. I would think a new operator could master that well within
an hour.

Clicking on spots is quick and cool, but at the same time a new person may not
really understand what is going on when they click and shout.

Thing is, a kid with these skills did not need the bells and whistles of
all the fancy stuff to make it fun!  Being a new person to contesting,
and even on SSB if it's soo new and strange that they are lucky to even
make a few QSO's a hour is doing great.  It's boring to them,  but with
the click and shoot, then they are making lots of contacts,  way cool yes?

I can not say how many times i have just cringed listening to a newby
tuning is someone on SSB.  Where we experienced folk tune and in 0.5 sec
are right on,  they ever soo slowly creep along and of course pass being
right on, and than start to creep again the other way and again
overshoot.  maybe two or three minutes later they are finally withinn
.5Kc of being on freq, and are now trying to call the person.

where with a good program they see a new station,  and click  wham bam
right on freq and ready to yell at them.
