I agree with the sentiments expressed in this thread. I thought the general
operating 'standard' in this event was really bad (but then I may not be
guiltless either), both from what I would expect from 'contesters', but also
just a general lack of QSO know how from some of the casual guys. It was
actually becoming a 'time and lost waiting QSO partners' issue explaining what
was needed, even for a basic QSO, including 'a signal report would be a good
start....!'

But to Paul, N8HM:
<<I prefer to hear it myself before logging it.>> Surely you MUST hear it
before logging it. Preference suggest a choice, which is the core of the
problem. Surely there is no choice.
<<In fact, is it really a good QSO if you never copy the other station's
callsign?>>.....and so, absolutely NO.

I was operating assisted, but even so, the cluster often either had the wrong
station or a busted call. I prefer to hear it myself before logging it. In
fact, is it really a good QSO if you never copy the other station's callsign?

I don't think this is going to change until a major contest sponsor puts an ID
requirement in the rules and DQs a big station for violating it, but it needs
to change.
