Boy how many times have I just wondered exactly that about new hams wondering if

contesting is for them. So many rules to learn, so many ways to cheat, so many other

non ham interest I'll check out !!

FWIW, I offer some observations as one of your humble moderators:

1) Contesting is supposed to be fun. The recent thread(s) on this channel
are anything but that. We have largely become a group of mean-spirited
curmudgeons firing one salvo after another at each other. This makes your
AR sad.

2) As a potential aspiring new contester, I would not walk but run very far
away from contesting after reading much of the email traffic on this
channel over the past few weeks.

3) Many of the posts on this channel have become personal. Tom and I have
deleted many for that reason. They often lack facts and are all-too-often
defensive.

I am the first to applaud spirited debate. Frankly, what I've been reading
of late is an embarrassment to our sport. We should all be ashamed.

Can I suggest you reboot and think two or three times before making your
next post? We're better than our current work product. At least, I'd like
to think so.

Thank you.
