Randy,

Thanks for the info about OZ1AA's adventure and book. I just ordered a
copy.

It reminds me of two fantastic "non--ham" documentaries of Ewan McGregor's
(Star Wars actor) motor cycle trips with his buddy around the world. They
are available on Netflix, and are "Long Way Down", the trip from Scotland to
Cape Town, and "Long Way Round", trip from Scotland east thru Europe and
Asia and the US. Both well worth watching.

I think many of us have worked Thomas OZ1AA over the years. He used to be
quite active in contests from Denmark. In October 2010, he decided to ride
his bicycle from Copenhagen to Sydney, Australia. That lead to a ride from
the bottom of South America to Nova Scotia. And then from Cape Town, South
Africa to Copenhagen. I followed his blog for the 6+ years of his adventure
(http://www.cyclingtheglobe.com/). It was a surprise one morning when he
called to say he was entering my town and asked if I had time for a vist.

Thomas has written a book about his travels. "He Who Cycled - A ride to the
end of the world and back".

It is an inspiring and captivating book. I can't imagine having the energy
and spirit to set out on such a journey and do it for less than $20 per day.
The book is easy to read and helps you see an amazing and inspiring world of
different cultures and environments through his eyes. He also makes mention
of interactions with local hams as he made his journey. It was a great
example of how ham radio hospitality opens its arms to everyone around the
world.

The book is self published. You can learn more about it at
http://www.cyclingtheglobe.com/book/

Two thumbs up!
