Like many of you, I have Fred in my VHF&HF logs countless times going back
decades.
On (non contest) 6m Es openings we would often have a short QSO either on
SSB or CW, so when there was
an HF contest around, I could sometimes count on a "HI MIKE" and I did the
same on occasion.
I don't make it a habit of calling vy many by name in a contest, but he was
one of those few exceptions.
I hope he rests in peace.
