The "e72" you use seems to be at odds with the directions on page 79 of the
FT-1000MP manual (at least the one I have), which says "After opening the
computer's serial port for 4800 baud, 8 data bits and 2 stop bits with no
parity....."

Somehow I interpreted this to mean one should use "n82" rather than "e72".
