As a new Ten-Tec owner (Omni-V) and a new reader to this reflector it
sure
seems that there are alot of messages reporting trouble with the
Omni-VI.
Is there a major problem with this radio..?? Did ten tec have this
trouble
with the other models it produced.?? Just curious..

Greetings Tim:

Dunno. Maybe cuz folks speak up when something has gone wrong. Most
don't speak up when all is hunky dory.

I'm an OMNI VI, Titan amp, Mod 238 antenna tuner owner since '93. A
couple of troubles with the VI over that timeframe. Ten-Tec provided
first class customer assistance and rapid factory repair. Hey,
electronic equipment fails from time to time. I've used a lot of
radios since 1956 , in commercial, military, and amateur applications,
in contest efforts and general usage, and the very finest transceiver
I've ever, ever, used is the OMNI VI. I did the factory upgrade to
PLUS last year and the OMNI VI got better.

That doesn't answer your question about the previous Ten-Tec radio
models but it may help explain how and why Ten-Tec improved their
product(s) as time moved on. Remember to make radio comparisons among
the same vintage and the equivalent feature categories. e.g. Don't
equally compare a Yaesu FT-101 with a TS-450S. There is an
evolutionary process. Previous radios I have used had a deficiency
or two. In my OMNI VI, I'm still searching for a deficiency compared
to those other radios I have used. I can say that this is my first
situation where the grass really isn't greener in the pasture beyond
the fence. I am not swayed by the folks that say it is greener.
