As an Omni 6+ user, I was curious about the problem, so 
I actually gathered some data -- can your imagine, data
on a ham radio topic!

Took my FT840, and listened to W1AW on 20 meters. Ye gods.
Clicks all over the place. 

Quickly switched to the Omni 6+ and they were almost all gone.
Tone was perfect on both rigs to this point.

Then hooked up my IC746, and the signal was absolutely clean. No
clicks on either edge, or on either side of the carrier. And that isn't
known as a very good receiver.

I leave it to you to draw conclusions. 

Oh W1AW was 9+40 here at the time. 

Same results were obtained on 2 other very strong signals near
the same frequency. 

I will say that few receivers can handle very strong signals without
some problems. But perhaps people were using devices of that
sort.
