Jim,
Does the popping noise occur at what appears to be random time
intervals, have fairly high level (S9 or so), have a frequency of about
2/second, and last about 4-5 seconds? I have that where I live now (not at
my previous address), Prior to getting my Omni VI+, I heard it on my
IC-765 and thought maybe the rig had developed a problem. But, when I got
the Omni and heard the same thing, I knew it was some sort of interference
in the neighborhood. Could it be a stepping motor for someone's satellite
antenna? Some kind of security system? Wireless dog fence? I don't have
a clue, but I hear something like that and I hear it on all my rigs. By
the way, if I pull the antenna, it's gone. Maybe we have a modern suburban
replacement for the ol' electric fence!
