Regarding amps, I think many Hams forgot what I learned way back in General
class school. It takes Approx a 4X power change to move the S-meter 1 "S"
unit. So if you have say, a Centurion at 1300
watts, you would have to go to say 2600 watts for 1/2 "S" unit increase
(ILLEGAL) and 5200 watts
for a full "S" unit, (WAY ILLEGAL). Unless your a die hard contester
straining for that last contact to win
or looking for that last 3-4 hard to reach countries for DXCC, IMHO, most
hams dont need another BIG
amp. I am Hearing a lot of older ragchewing hams who are getting tired of
loading and tuning every time they change frequencies/bands and all they
want is an extra 500-750 watts or so to ragchew under poor band conditions.
I can see the need for a Titan III for 100% duty cycle modes, but there
is only 1 american manufacturer making a 600 watt SS amp at this time with
mixed reviews. I realy think a Herc III similar to the Herc II would fill
the bill nicely, and Affordably.
