The Omni VI+ transmits 1.8KHz wide SSB with soft shoulders.  If you 
prefer wideband sideband look for a Jupiter or Orion.  Remember that 
widening your audio bandwidth reduces your received signal strength for 
a given bandwidth.
I use the Model 700 hand-mike and the quality of my Omni 6 audio always 
receives compliments.
