Chances are that the BFO crystal or crystals have drifted off of the slope 
of the bandpass filter.  A re-alignment is likely required.  Do follow the 
steps in the manual in the exact sequence.  A good frequency counter of 
known accuracy is required as to oscillators need to be set to 1 Hz or 
better resolution.
