No, he is right.  The 1208 converts 14 MHz to 50 MHz and the 1209 converts
144 MHz to 50 MHz.  For a while, Tentec marketed the 1220 2 meter
transceiver with the 1209, saying that this would get you 6 & 2.  I agree on
the 1208, though.  Still have it and it works FB.

Must be a typo.  My 1208 converts 14 MHz (not 144) to 50 MHz.   Works 
great.  I drive it with 5 watts from my Argo V and it puts out 8-9  watts on
6.
