If Ten Tec said to check diodes, that is something you can do if you have a diode test function on your DVM, or even if you only have a VOM with resistance scales. A good diode checks high resistance in one direction with VOM X 100 ohms scale, and low resistance in the forward direction, (opposite polarity of probes compared to the first measurement above.)

On a DVM it is even easier on the diode symbol switch position, you simply look for 0.3 volts nominal for Germanium diodes, and 0.6 volts nominal for Silicon. Likely all the diodes in modern rigs will be silicon. The diodes you would be concerned about would be in the RF board area for amplifiers and perhaps the ALC section and the SWR measurement section, if that area includes protective circuits for the finals. An open diode there could shut things down, and certainly one that is shorted when power is high enough.
