[TenTec] Argonaut V receiver noise

I have a new to me Argonaut V and I have a few concerns about the receiver.
When the antenna is disconnected I have a S2 noise level in the unit with
some audible hiss. Also during an on air comparison with my FT-817  the
Argonaut seems to have quite a bit more noise.

Should I be concerned?

A secondary question, does anyone have any experience with the external
audio DSP speakers? Do they help with power line noise?
