Oh, just an observation. Price point looms large in every product design.

The holy grail of marketing in manufacturing is to find one product that
pleases everyone. The oft used theory is to make a generalized unit that
can accept modules selected by the end-user to configure performance and
features to any and all price points. After all, everyone has different
requirements and desires different levels of performance, all at a price
they can afford. Marketing people salivate at the prospect of selling one
product that is everything to everyone!

In real life, it rarely works.

Most successful products are designed to meet a single price point with
the best quality and performance that can be offered at that price. A
good salesman can upsell the product with options, but even the options
will fit in the general price range.

Offering a product that is *defined* by the options is a different matter.
Elecraft has cleverly positioned itself to do this in a limited fashion
by offering their radio as a *kit*. IMO this is a brilliant way to go in
offering an a la carte radio, and something TenTec should consider if they
go this route.

Any "Orion III" will be in large part defined by its price point. Ten-Tec
does an outstanding job of providing an excellent value in their radios,
and it is certain they will offer as much performance as possible for
their target price point. Amateur radio is a very small and limited
market, and we are fortunate that our friends at Ten-Tec have allocated
their money, efforts, and resources to allow us to enjoy some really great
radios!
