I did - that's why I mentioned that there seemed to ba a rash of failures
around the same time with the RF Parts 3-500ZG's. They were currently
advertising to indicate they were "better" than the Taylor branded tube made
in China, but as a number of us discovered, there seemed to be a "production
problem" (I'll call it, to be kind) that we all felt. I don't know how the
later tubes fared because the person I sold the amp to stored it in a closet
with a lot of other ham gear he intended to put on the air some day. I
think he eventually sold it all, so I have lost track of it. Not a big deal
at this point, but the common wisdom at the time was to find EIMAC's, if you
could, as they were a lot more reliable. That could be completely upside
down now, especially since EIMAC's are probably scarce as hens teeth.

Duane, even if things were in best order, all products from all companies
still have occasional premature failures and somebody is always the proud
owner. Perhaps you just had bad luck, unless you heard of a lot of similar
cases.

I don't think we're talking power out, but rather long-term reliability. At
the time I had the two pairs of RF Parts 3-500ZG's they were touting how
they had the factory running to meet their manufacturing criteria. They had
done a lot of work to improve the factory's product to meet their
requirements. Maybe this is all old news now.
