Thanks, Rick!

Pure coincidence! I'd no idea that you had owned any Alfa-Romeos. Back in the late '70s I knew another guy that did. A sweet ride, but I recall that it needed a fair bit of tinkering.

I simply don't understand what someone wants to accomplish by posting on a TenTec list that they decided not to buy a TenTec radio. Honestly: what's the point? Is there something they want from one of us? If so, what is it? I use this list for information and problem solving: if something seems broke, or I don't understand how it works or how to do something, if I need a part, etc., I come here first. But I'd never come here and say "Y'know, I heard <blah blah blah> so I'm not going to buy a TT radio." That's simply goofy.

As for my Orion II, I'm going to perform the PowerPole conversion on it. I plan to go to a hamfest in early April where there's a guy that always shows up with just about every PowerPole connector ever created and sells 'em for pretty good prices. Yes, I could buy 'em on the web, but then I'd lose my great excuse to go. My other excuse is to finally attend an Oklahoma DX Association meeting after having been a member for, um... A long time. I just hope I'm not called out for the VORTEX South East project that weekend -- OU's taking part and supplying a couple of mobile radars, one of which I'm on.

Kim,

That was a wonderful post.
I don't know if it was intentional or coincidence... but it was a great
comparison.

I have owned 4 Alfa Romeos. I had 2 Giuliettas, the recent coupe and a 142.
They weren't quite as sophisticated as a Porsche, but they were real
performers, lookers and really had unique class. It was a pleasure to drive
them. Kind of like a Ten-Tec.

The Triton IV was kind of like my 1972 Giulietta. Simple, yet quite a
performer.
My 2000 Giulietta was more like an Orion.
But the ass-kicker was my 1996 Coupe - quite like the Eagle; 150 mph and
stable as the rock of Gibralter.

The 142 was just a decent car, kind of like the Jupiter. A simple car for
the masses, but it had class and a terrific sound from its 4 cylinder Boxer
motor.

I'm curious about posts like this.

I must ask, what's the point of your post?

It's a bit like walking into an Alfa-Romeo dealer and saying "I've chosen a
Porche 918 Spyder over your 4C Spyder." Do you want one of us to try to talk
you out of your decision? Do you expect all of us to slap our foreheads and
admit we've made a poor choice of radio?

Why do you think that your choice is something we should care about?

I have had the purchase of an Orion II in the back of my mind. Given
the apparent absence of any semblance of readily available customer
relations, I think I'll wait for the Icom IC-7610. I just can't see this
company competing down the road.
I have an Omni VI, Triton 4, and Argonaut among my collection. I like the
idea of running American made rigs. But I feel less than comfortable
investing further in a radio I might never be able to have serviced.
Sigh.
