[TowerTalk] Painting a new mast?

I have a 20 foot 4130 CM unpainted mast at 85 feet. This is one area I may
have overlooked when I put up the tower a while back. I guess my thinking
was that in a "no salt air" environment I, myself would rust away long
before this mast does.

Doesn't a layer of rust actually act as a protector anyhoo?
