I posed the question of using a weight bearing thrust bearing with an M2
Orion 2800P rotor.  Here is M2's response:

Dear Dick,

You can install a vertical load bearing if you like.  It will not effect the
performance of the OR2800 Rotator, as long as it is installed correctly.  You
want to make sure everything is aligned properly, to make sure there is no
binding in the bearing.
