I have had several questions about "fresnel zone".  This is the zone where the
transmitted wave hits the ground and is reflected back up to combine with the
origional wave.  On HF it usually occurs about 1000 feet from the base of the
tower.  It adds 6db to horizontal antennas.  Vertical antennas usually receive
no bennefit due to brewster angle losses.
