I'm one of those fellow that throws away the caps because they
come off and if u don't  drill a whole down here is La. u get lotsa
water in there  Last time I put one up been long time ago, but I
cut window screen into strips.  Rolled it up and stuck it the ends.
Walla, end of problem. Rigged the screen up for the boom ends.
Too much screen to roll up , I did not have that much, so I cut
large circles and wedged in boom ends. I put a couple of rolls
of screen in the circle to help hold it in and it never came out.
Cut a piece 18" square and make ur circle and the other inside
it and never will come out. I've seen hardware cloth used but
those opening are too big.

But that idea of crimping is best way, never used it but I will
this time, thanks for the tip.
