That depends on what distances you are trying to work. 200-600 miles, the
horizontal part may provide the most useful radiation.

My ARRL Antenna Book suggests 160-170' feet may be the easiest to load on 160.
There is nothing wrong with a multiple of a half wavelength. That's the length
for Zepp antennas and "Two half waves in phase" antennas.
