    To some extent. Wire rope lubricants are a light  grade oil since it 
needs to soak into the strands - thus the need to apply it  occasionally. Once 
a year is more than the vast majority of users do that'd be  step in the 
right direction. 
 
    Towers that creak and groan as they move will be a  lot quieter after 
you lube the cables. 
 
    Champion Radio Products carries PreLube 6 - the  recommended cable 
lubricant of wire rope manufacturers.
