playing the odds is an appropriate strategy for a hobby.

This is my problem when people drag out the Motorola R56(?) or Air Force or FAA grounding documents. If you're building mission critical systems that need 24/7/365.2422 availability, and you have the corresponding budget, then go for it.

If you don't have a "recovery time" requirement, then less work up front and an insurance policy (which is basically a way to pay for your replacement gear on a "time payment" plan) might be just as good.
