Old saying: There are old tower climbers and there are bold tower
climbers. But, there are no old, bold tower climbers.

Has anyone seen someone who has fallen from a tower? I was called out one
night 10 years ago because a 23 year old kid with an 8 month old daughter
who will now never know her daddy thought he could walk across a 160'
monopole without hooking up and fell to his death. The job was almost done
after 5 days and it was at dusk and they wanted to get done.

I was called to the scene to lock it down until the police and OSHA could
get there. He was like jello. There is NO moving him, NO nothing unless
you want to go to jail! This is not a game where someone has a sprained
ankle. If he fell he's on the ground. If he's not he needs rescued and
there should be a rescue bag at the bottom of the tower to use. This is
the first thing you should put there just after the JHA goes up.

To the one who said put a harness on him, I sure hope your not on any of
the towers I manage. Yes, I climbed 20+ years before I got where I am now
so I have seen some dumb things and did some back then. But that was a
statement that makes me cringe. There is a non profit organization to help
the family.

100% tie off. PERIOD,
