Not only that, it's the only method that works. :)

It should be obvious from this discussion that you want to use some sort of hanging method that lets you raise and lower it. That can be anything from pulleys to ropes over tree branches.

Also, how high it needs to be depends on the frequency. A good rule of thumb is to try to get it at least a quarter wave high to tune it.

Another thing to remember -- raising a dipole will nearly always move the resonant frequency UP.
