Yes, this is a really good method if you are willing to go to the trouble of designing and building the necessary hardware and running the control line. It has the additional advantage of no "excess attenuation" in the feedline due to mismatch at the band edges. That excess attenuation is not a big deal if you're using big coax (a few tenths of a dB).
