I heard about this guy! Hasn’t happened to me, but someone I know (who is
computer smart) got the call, and decided to play along to the point where he
was getting seriously compromised.

What the dude does is walk you thru your system and points out several
Certificates which have expired. He gives you an education on what certificates
are, and how they help protect your system (all true). Once he helps you find
expired Certificates (and apparently all systems have them), he then puts the
sales pitch on you to let him “sell” you a new one, or log in remotely to fix
it, etc. This is the point at which my buddy said “adios”, but that is the scam
the was offered, and apparently was fairly credible. Another one to avoid.

Ooops, sorry to TT Group for all the off-topic stuff...my bad. No more.

newest thing out is some Indian dude calls from a stateside number claiming
that my computer has a virus problem and he can help sort it out. All I have to
do is turn the computer on and he will walk me thru the repairs! Needless to
say this is where the language goes downhill to say the least. You would think
after the cussing he got that he would never call back but he has been back 3
times with the same actions. Also contacted my brother with the same story.
Life in the computer fast lane! 73's Cort K4WI
