I know we can buy them and that they “work” somewhat as advertized, but I’ve never seen a serious worm gear application that didn’t involve Running in an oil bath in a closed housing. In that environment, I’d guess one could get some hydrodynamic oiling, greatly reducing friction and wear. Now to find ham priced reducers! off to the jukyard.
