[TRLog] LOG RECOVERED! There is a god!

Without being sacrilegious, his name is Norton (Utilities)!

After losing my entire Sweepstakes log I have been able to recover it in its
entirety with the aid of Norton Utilities. Through much trial and error it
seems that the entries in the 5-QSO editable window are stored in the
log.TMP file. Whenever a new QSO is logged it is immediately written to the
log.TMP file. When the operating system actually adds this record to the
file, it completely rewrites the file to the disk. However, it does not
write it in the same physical location on the disk. More than likely it
writes it in a free space area before it overwrites any other files. What
this meant is that using Norton Unerase I was able to have it find every
file, active or deleted, that contained certain data. In this case I had it
search for the date string contained in the TR log of "07-Nov-99" and
"08-Nov-99". Norton located several hundred files which contained the log
data and a lot of other "junk". Each file listed five lines of data and
they were incremented by one QSO in every succeeding file. The data
appeared to "scroll" as it does in the editable window and that is why I am
assuming these files contained the data from the TMP file.

Phew! A lot of sweat went into the recovery, but it was worth it.
