Hello Bill, thanks for replying but ignore Winkey, that interface is dead in the water. The backup is an opto-isolater type that is directly keyed, this is the one i'm trying to get to run smoothly. It ran fine for about an hour last night but it then sent one of the CW messages very quickly, more like a poorly keyed 50WPM instead of the nice smooth 24WPM, then it was fine again. It's not RF, its not the interface, it's not the radio, it's something between Writelog and the timing of the com port. I just can't figure out what to change in the com port settings or the com port settings within Writelog..

You might bring up device manger and look and see what ports are set up for the rig and the winkey. My windey is set up to use com9 and com 4 for rig control. You may have to reload into your computer from the winkey cd. If you don't have the cd I think it can be down loaded from winkey site. I had a simlar problem when i flew to California and operated the cqp from California. Hope this might help.

Subject: [WriteLog] CW direct keying

Hi All,
I'm on holiday in the Greek Islands and my Winkey compatible interface has failed, luckily I have a spare directkeying interface which is just an opto-isolater type. It works fine but everynow and then it will just go crazy and it sounds like rig is being keyed very fast with rough choppy CW. This has happened a few years back on a different direct keying interface, different laptop, different radio, different type com port (I used to key off of a real comport) this was the reason why I went with the Winkey type as direct keying was unreliable. I presume I need to change a Writelog or a com port setting but can figure out what?

Any help appreciated.
