I've never dismantled a 8877, but in other external anode tubes that I've dismantled, that cap is only decorative - underneath is the "pinch off" where they evaculate the tube during manufacture. Reg

I spoke to Mike the technician at Ameritron yesterday and he totally advised against using any type of heat dissipating cap on the anode of an 8877 stating it would disturb the air flow of the tube.

Patent what? Prime Instruments made caps like that in the 80's, and Amp Supply sold them as 8877 caps among other things. Of course the former owner of Amp Supply went on to sell to Audio-phools now

I would argue that software should really come under Copyright Law as it is not something which can be developed into a physical object. But I do agree that many patent submissions are pretty stupid
