What would you guys think of a new radio that had the following characteristics: Ø SDR radio with knobs, similar size and form factor to the IC-7300 Ø Superior receiver to the IC-7300; roughly on par

I think 100w is required because people do not understand how little it will effect performance.. Sure if your are on the cusp of then lice floor at the receiving station then every watt will help..

Anyone look at the Kenwood 590SG? Just replaced my Orion II with one. Fantastic little rig & most bang for the buck I've ever seen for $1500. Scott K4VWK --Original Message-- ________________________

I'm a big direct-sampling SDR fan but don't much care for the form factor of the IC-7300. The screen is too small and not enough knobs. Barry N1EU _______________________________________________ TenT

Barry, that's not quite a fair criticism. The radio is small so the screen must be small. You can purchase optional software which replicates the screen onto any size computer screen that you please.

Yes, ideally I'd want a bigger radio with a bigger screen and more knobs If you go with the same form factor, please use a much higher resolution than the 480x272 used in the IC7300. If you did that,

Not necessarily -- it depends on your style of operation and what else you own. My Titans will get within a dB of legal limit with 50W drive. It takes only 28W to drive my KPA500 to its full power of

Bob, You said: "Output power is no good if you can't hear." This is exactly why I said you need a 14-bit ADC/DAC and not 12-bit. The dynamic range improves significantly with the extra 2 bits. In rec

Actually, that sounds pretty good to me. My Omni VII spends more time at 50w than at 100 as that is where it sits to drive my amp and where I usually operate for digital modes. However, I imagine the
