Hi,

I don't really have too much trouble with 50 watts, but then I run QRP a lot too. I used to run 10 watts SSB mobile.

I do like the size of my Jupiter. I wouldn't expect any rig to be that big today. The TS-590s is a nice size rig.

Yes, ideally I'd want a bigger radio with a bigger screen and more knobs

If you go with the same form factor, please use a much higher resolution
than the 480x272 used in the IC7300. If you did that, I think I'd actually
buy one at $1000 and 50W.

Barry, that's not quite a fair criticism. The radio is small so the
screen must be small. You can purchase optional software which replicates
the screen onto any size computer screen that you please.

As for the knobs, please explain what is missing or how many you might
want.
Tnx.

I'm a big direct-sampling SDR fan but don't much care for the form factor
of the IC-7300. The screen is too small and not enough knobs.

What would you guys think of a new radio that had the following
characteristics:

Ø SDR radio with knobs, similar size and form factor to the IC-7300

Ø Superior receiver to the IC-7300; roughly on par with the Flex 6300

Ø 50w of output power

Ø Cost: $1000

I guess the big question is, is 50w a show stopper.

Had someone ask me that question recently (obviously with the intent
to build this) and I had to pass.

I dunno.

For me I find it OK.

I usually run my Eagle at 60w and when driving my amp, it runs at 60w.

But my gut tells me most people won’t accept a 50w transmitter.

They are programmed to expect 100w.

What do you guys think?
