This is NOT a diagnosis but a possible avenue of investigation. The early Astron RS35 had a problem with internal grounding (actually the lack of it). If your Astron is old, it may help to follow Ast

Make sure the Astron power supply is under the desk or otherwise remote from the rig by at least a couple of feet. Be sure to use the same gauge wire as provided by the rig manufacurer for power lead

Ok, I'll bite. I'll regret it, but I'll bite. Ground surges won't arc across stuff and run from place to place through your rig and other expensive equipment if ALL grounds, everywhere at your QTH ar

Actually Gary, what you say would be true in theory, but for the mortal character of wire resistance. That is what allowed the surge to come down the coax shield, (low R) and travel thru the coax con

Forget about grounding and rewiring things. I suspect that your problem is nothing more than simple magnetic coupling of 60 Hz into the mic. When you set the rolloff to 200 Hz, you knock it down a lo

I agree with others that the most likely cause is magnetic pickup or AC grounding problems, but there could be another source. I have found that I get fan noise from the power supply coupling into th
