Some of my points may not have been obvious and there were a couple of comments. 1. The question was about 1:1 baluns. Transformers for other impedances are obviously great. 2. My remarks about loss

You're feeding a dummy load - it won't matter. With RG-8/RG-213 having ~ 1dB/100 ft at 30 MHz, the feedline alone has 500 dB(!) loss. 73, ... Joe, W4TV <snip> Any length of wire a multiple of a half

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions (many off line) for a better balun than my BN-86's. I just ordered from Force 12 (Chip K7JA) their bead balun model EB-1 as this is easier for me to install o

AAARGH! Most strings of beads are terrible chokes, because they are inductive, not resistive, at the operating frequencies. This is discussed in the tutorial I referenced earlier in this thread. 73,

I have to agree with Jim here. The old B-1 balun Force 12 sold was not very good - I managed to burn out a couple. The SWR was never as flat as with the 'ugly balun'. :) 73, Jamie WB4YDL AAARGH! Most

Mounting Nema box baluns to a boom can be easily and securely done if you make a mounting plate. I use 1/4 thick aluminum and mount the box to the plate using four 10-32 screws though the box's feet.

That's an exception -- a GOOD one, and was W2DU's choice for his choke balun. #73 puts the resonance in the middle of HF, so it's a good design. So I'll retract my negative comments about it -- IF it
