A word from the sponsor ...
Going into the 2013 event, the profile for the British Columbia QSO Party was
higher than ever. So was interest and support. And this definitely showed ...
at least on the PH side.
There were, and probably always will be, challenges on game day. Band
conditions, for example, were not particularly good. But who has control over
that? (Itâ??s a rhetorical question. I know the answer.)
Another issue is the many same-day/weekend on-air events. Some people would say
choose a different weekend for BCQP because certain other on-air events make it
difficult to CQ on the CW and RTTY frequencies. Others would say, use these
same-day/weekend contests to trade Qs.
To be sure, NA Sprint creates a maelstrom of activity that takes over the
associated frequencies and makes CQing for BCQP contacts extremely frustrating
if not impossible. XE RTTY probably takes over the associated frequencies, as
well. Perhaps both events take possible participants away from the weekend QSO
parties, including BCQP, shrinking the pool of possible CW and RTTY operators
in these parties.
But on PH, the same-day/weekend activity presents tremendous QSO potential,
most likely because it's a whole lot easier to trade Qs on PH. Reciprocal QSO
activity supports the other on-air events and undoubtedly helps
in-state/province stations build certificate-winning scores. It makes time fly
by. And that translates into fun at the radio.
So while there are challenges, there are also opportunities. I guess each of us
has to devise a game-day strategy that works.
