Most of the time the original fan motor can be taken apart, the shafts and
bearing surfaces thoroughly cleaned. Then relube including the felt
reservoir at the back. I use a 5 or 10 weight synthetic oil that doesnt
easily pick up dirt or harden.
The blade hub chould be 1/16" from the motor frame for proper air flow and
the blades completely cleaned. The small aluminum piece on top of the
perforated shield must also be in place.

That is Dayton pn 4M070. Grainger sells it for $22.47.
Reuse your old fan blade, or spend twice the money to
get the blade and then have to balance it.

This article is in the 1980 ARRL Handbook, showing a grid-driven 833A in
linear service. But I have never heard of anyone actually trying it, and
I've done many Google searches.

notation is a misnomer as such a tube was never actually produced within

If the ark occur at the stand-by state (not TXing) you should
check HV+ as well as the tube itself.
The tube can cause ark inside especially when it is NOS.
If it is the case you can see typically pink ark inside the tube.
A plastic insulator between the chassis and the base of plate RFC
can break into pieces after long operation.
I have replaced it to 25 x 25 x 3mm teflon sheet.
Also, I have experienced a splitted lower RFC brass-band.
It can cause a short-state to chassis ground. It is easy to change
the band but I have soldered another piece of copper sheet to
chink it up.
My SB-1000 may cause ark around the band switch when
feeding high-SWR load but almost stable.

Thanks much for the responses. I checked everything suggested but no joy.
I even resoldered all connections. The capacitors were put in by a
previous owner and are supposed to be new. They checked out okay.
The arcing sound is definitely coming from the power supply area but even
in the dark I can't see the flash of light, bizarre. It's time to sell
the
SB-1000 at a bargain price.
