The TL-922 has 120 volts DC on the relay key line. And yes, it will weld the contacts shut on your radio. The relays on the TL-922 are very SLOW switching from transmit to receive. They frequently hot switch. This is why the amplifier arcs in the band switch and plate tuning capacitor.

If I had another one, I would convert to QSK with fast relays and 10 volts of key line voltage @ > 10ma.

IF your looking for a out of the box solution, the Harbaugh SK220 (for the SB-220) would work in the TL-922. The SK200 (for the SB-200 would NOT work).

Hi Jean

The best way to found out if TL 922 was modified for low voltage keying is
by taking a voltage measurement at the rca key-in jack.
If you got +100 volts no, if yes it could be 12 or 24 v dc.
Now by looking at the FT1000 D manual the rear rca TX_Gd could be used but
first you need to active the internal radio relay if needed. Internal switch
S1002 must be ON. This relay can handle .5A/125v ac, 2A/30v.
The other option is to use the band data DIN connector, pin 2 TX_Gd & 3
ground. Now for this one we normally keep S1002 turned Off, you must check
what voltage and current this switching transistor could drive your relay
voltage and current. We normally use this one for very fast 1ms switching
like full break-in cw. Of course your TL922 needs vacuum relays or pin diode
to prevent hot switching. Any mechanical relay will be destroyed in a short
time like factory built TL 922.

Objet : [Amps] Keying Kenwood TL922 with Yaesu FT1000D (both old guys)

Hi guys;

Anyone could me put in the right way for next coming contest.
Witch connection plug I best use on the back of the FT1000D for keying this
old TL922.
I saw that the Tl922 keying system has been modified so it could be keyed by
means of a low power transistor.
The keynig system of the FT1000D could not be damage by this setup !
I useual do not handle with amplifiers in my ham carreer so poor expirience
around hi..

Kindly regards and thanks to all I look forward

Jean ON4AEF.
