Professionally, I use more Transorbs (from companies like OnSemi and
Microsemi). They are superior to back to back zeners for transient spike
clamping.
I also use TransZorbs, Transils, and all those other clamping diodes, in
preference over MOVs. The specs of old fashioned MOVs are pretty lame
compared to these more modern devices!
But some low requirement applications are still well served by MOVs.
