Achieving top-ten status from Midwest and Mountain Time zones is recognized
as a yeoman effort. However, most of us in these zones will typically score
way down in the pack. This can be quite discouraging for some diehard
big-gun contesters.
My Geochron is a great tool for assisting in defining what part of the globe
has the terminator. It also shows precisely what country is in what time
zone. The continental US has 4 time zones. Russia has 10.
The A-Z time zones would be obvious multipliers (there is no J zone).
Examples of the exchange would be R599CT, S599WI, T599CO, or U599CA.
Then there are the +30 and +45 minute zones, using an X to signify different
from on the hour variance from GMT. New Zealand would be M599 and Chatham
would be MX599. Some contest expeditions might want to go to VK9 or VR6 and
some of those other rare spots to give out double-multipliers not available
from anywhere else.
Published results could be sorted by country and time zone. Who knows? New
award sponsors might even surface.
Any thoughts?
Pete,
