In all versions of the Configurator that I have here, the following occurs:

Wireless Link Test ---> Explore ----> Link Test

Now, if you happen to lose the link (aligning antennas or whatever) you have
to reboot the remote because config.exe reports that there is already
another link test going on.

A much bigger deal 100 feet up on a tower on a 3750' mountain with a laptop
in 30MPH winds at 37 degrees F.

Honestly, Karlnet is not very friendly at all when it comes to making a link
happen.  I think NetStumbler is much more useful if you put the radios in
802.11 mode.  And, Teletronics has a pretty good site survey tool.
