I have another thought.  Back in the days when I was using the Paragon 
in several African spots, I recall that I had a similar problem.  After 
removing the top cover, there is a small plain aluminum cover back 
toward the right near the PA.  There are a couple of sheet metal screws 
which need to be removed before the cover comes off.  Inside is a fuse 
holder and a 25 amp fuse.  That fuse may show some signs of heating.  It 
may even appear to be good.  Sub a new one and test it before putting 
the cover back on.
