When on pre-set, my G-800SDX also make the clicking sound. It has had the
problem since 1993 when I got it. My guess is its trying to maintain heading,
but it thinks its drifting. I also push the directional bar to stop it.

I've also noticed a tendency to move back on forth on pre-set, when I put out
a 100w+ vhf signal. Key up - it moves, unkey - it moves back. I don't know
if the rotor actually moves. I never got around to having a second person
check it.

I have been using the g-1000sdx model for almost 4 years. The clicking
sound I get is when using the pre-set, it goes to the direction then
kind of ratchets. All I do is push the directional bar control and it
stops. I never had the thing in the shop and never contacted anyone
about it. Might be what you are experiencing.
