I am planning to reinstall a TA-33 which has been stored since 1975.
The instructions (1970 dated) indicate to attach the coax directly to
the driven element.
My questions: should a 1:1 balun be used at the beam or is that not
recommended? What alternatives should one consider in making the coax
connection?
>>When I re-did my 1971 vintage TA-33, I installed a homebrew current balun,
replacing the direct feed. I did this since my monobanders using the same
baluns seemed "quieter." I realize a mono should be quieter than a multi-
bander, but I feel the balun made a positive difference on my 33, also. No
differences were noted in other performances. Force 12 and The Wireman, among
others, offer baluns and kits.
By the way, if your 33 is 1970 vintage and hasn't had the traps replaced, you
should think about changing them before you put it up and have to take it down
when the phenolic splits. You want the black trap forms, not the white ones.
