Barry,

If running low power, I'd vote with the others and build a homebrew antenna
tuner. You can have a very versatile and efficient system for far less
than $200.

If you're keen on high power and are willing to sacrifice 160m, you may
want to check out the concept developed by Cecil Moore, W6RCA. He has a
very nice explanation of it on his web site at

               http://people.delphi.com/cecilmoore/mystery.htm

Cecil was a guest at our local DX club one night to describe it, and it is
soundly based.

Just be advised that your installation may not be identical and that you
may have to experiment with the lengths of inserted ladder line to "tune"
your particular system (you'll see what I mean if you visit his site).
Also keep in mind that you don't necessarily need to run your antenna all
in-line; the ends can be bent a bit to fit the available space without
affecting the efficiency much. It should not be much of a problem to fit
130 feet of wire into a 100 foot space. Again, this option would cost much
less than $200.

Best of luck,
Dave AB7E
